Golf Tournaments Raise $100,000 for the Washington Apple Education Foundation
Wenatchee, WA… Washington Apple Education Foundation (WAEF) golfers participated in two golf tournaments this summer supporting the good works of the tree fruit industry’s charity. The first tournament took place in East Wenatchee at the Wenatchee Golf & Country Club on June 7th. The second tournament was on July 21st at the Apple Tree Golf Course in Yakima. Both tournaments were sponsored by Wilbur Ellis and Valent USA. Combined they netted approximately $100,000 for scholarship and educational programs benefiting tree fruit industry families and students.
Wenatchee tournament Chairman Jim Wade shared, “When we started this organization seventeen years ago we knew we had industry backing. I don’t know that any of us really understood just how much industry members would get behind the Foundation. It’s wonderful to see the same sponsors coming back year after year to support WAEF through the golf tournament.”
Peter Verbrugge, tournament chairman for the Yakima, added “Several students volunteer at the golf tournaments. It’s rewarding to see these students wanting to connect with industry members and adding to efforts to raise funds for future scholarships. I am really appreciative of the industry’s combined commitment to WAEF.”
