2011 Scholarship Update!

The Washington Apple Education Foundation awarded new scholarships to 139 students raised in the state’s fruit growing districts this spring. These awards represent approximately $425,000 in scholarship assistance, an increase of about 15 percent over last year. Funds for the WAEF scholarships are contributed by industry members through various fundraisers throughout the year, in memory of industry leaders and friends, and annual donations.

“As colleges and universities respond to budget pressures by increasing tuition rates, the role of private scholarships becomes even greater in determining whether or not a student accesses higher education”, shared WAEF Chairman Berti Stewart.  “WAEF students are an inspirational bunch.  We are so pleased these kids are receiving a chance to realize their scholastic potential with the support of the tree fruit industry”, she added.
